Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress"


Top turret. The B17 top turret gunner stood in the mechanism and used foot pedals to train the turret in azimuth.

The ball turret was operated by the use of foot pedals. The gunner sat in a reclined position with his feet raised above the guns. The gunner had 360ö of motion in azimuth and 0ö to -90ö in elevation. The faceplate was unarmored plexiglas 13" in diameter. (click on picture for more photos)

The Cheyenne turret was not powered. The gun and turret were mounted on a swivel. Not clearly seen here is bullet resistant glass plate in front of the gunner. (click on picture for more photos)
