The above picture was taken of the Lady V (Red R) after the war. On her last mission she was badly damaged and was forced down in the Netherlands. Her pilot, LT Vanderhoef, made an emergency landing at Venlo airfield. The crew would be returned, but the aircraft would not. Lady V was parked next to the former German air tower until August 1947 when she was finally scrapped.

The Lady V served with the 833rd BS before being transferred to the 834th. The Lady V was also damaged and made an emergency landing at Amiens (or Lille), France on the Oct 14th mission. The pilot, LT Hughes, and his crew were repatriated to the 486th the next day. The aircraft was also retrieved and returned to service. She would be transferred to the 834th and given the ID letter R.

This picture, and others, along with aircraft history were submitted by Dr. Hub Groeneveld. Dr. Groeneveld would appreciate any additional information.
